Heart of Stone

The water,
She caresses me
She flows
Softly, gently
Around me.
Sunlight plays
Shining over her
In glorious splendour
Turning tiny drops
Into priceless diamonds.
Peaceful, the sound
As she plays
Laughing and giggling
Over and Under
As she meanders
And circumnavigates me.
The water,
She made me pure
Filed away my
Sharpness and anger
Determined, she works
Beyond the bounds of time
Over my pebbled body.

Laughter, it
Fills the air
Flowers burst into bloom
Laden with heavy scent
Birds twitter
Mozart and Beethoven
Fishes, they slide
Slapping me coyly
With their slippery fins
The weeds, they
Touch me tender
Swaying in ecstasy
To her rushing rhythm
Passions uninhibited
As cupid plays
I watch
Lovers swim
Legs entangled
Glistening with moisture
They embrace
Lean and kiss
In the spring air
Over my rounded body.

She quietens
And recedes
She is weak and frail
She whispers hoarsely
Her voice dying
The sun, I feel him
Scalding, without mercy
My exposed skin
She disappears
Death surrounds me
The air filled
With the rotten stench
Withering and killing
Barren trees
Emptiness everywhere
Pitiful eyes
Cracked lips
Starving stomachs
Turn up to heaven
Yearn and pray
For their lifeblood
For her revival
Around my burning body.

Water, she gushes
Roaring mightily
Swallowing
Engulfing everything
She tumbles and runs
Drowning even
Booms of thunder
Pelts, they rain
Rippling her body
I watch
She grows in strength
Pressing me down
Into watery depths
Turbulence, it escalates
The world, it rushes by
A peculiar movie
In liquid, of books
Cattle and people
Lost in watery velocity
Uncontrolled
She floods the Universe
Destructive
Over my smooth body

She is languorous
The air it’s chilly
She is thick
Becoming
Honey and Molasses
Slowly pushing forward
Moving with pain
An old woman
Bent on her cane
No more a liquid
She is cold
Frozen, she sleeps
Covered snugly
By a white duvet
Her voice so bass
Lethargic and slow
Hums me a lullaby
The world in hibernation
Cold and silent
The winter
It’s heavy and long
She murmurs sleepily
Over my cold body.

Winter to spring
Summer to autumn
Flood to drought
The cycles, they continue
Time, she flows
Histories repeat
Future merges into past
Eons tumble past
Her waters, time and again
Brush over me
Carrying the present over
Blood from wars
Tears from the heartbroken
Sweat from toil
Sweet perfumes of
Besotted couples
Ferries run by me
I see thousands
I watch mutely
Countless lives, countless centuries
My heart of stone
Slowly I join oblivion, released
From my eroding body.
