I'll close my eyes
And shut them tight.
I'll curl my fists
And pull them in
I'll lie down on the rock
And scrunch up small
I'll pretend hard
That I'm sleeping away
I'll hold myself in
And not freeze
The naked stone on my skin,
I'll let it score me
Till I'm raw
I'll bleed away
But I'll not die.
I hold myself down
As they want me too
I'll do it for eternity
And I won't speak
I'll hold myself
Like a statue
Unmoving
Uncomplaining.
They can put me anywhere
I won't say a word
Under the River
On the tree
Wherever they want
I'll not protest
But I'll keep my heart alive
Filled with impossible hopes
But I'll keep them
Hopes of a rain
Cool and healing
Upon my parched flesh
To stir me again
But this time,
Into a life
That I can live
By my own terms.
REALLY?
